Net Impact has announced the 2011-2012 Gold and Silver standings for Net Impact chapters across the globe and once again Fuqua won gold!
The standings, based on the chapter’s performance this past academic year, represent the most outstanding chapters in the Net Impact network. This year, just 16% of over 300 Net Impact chapters worldwide achieved Gold standing.
Fuqua’s Net Impact Club – which engages nearly half of the Fuqua student body and is one of the largest clubs on campus – has received gold status every year since 2007. This past year’s Presidents, Dan Baum and Beca Howard, led the club in a multitude of exciting and engaging programs.
The year started off with an inspiring “Day in Durham” event where Kevin Trapani, CEO of the Redwoods Group, told first years, “You are here to learn to lead, to learn to lift your community, to learn to change the world.” Club members took his words to heart, planning and participating in dozens of education, service, and leadership opportunities, such as: a career trek to San Francisco, record-high attendance at Net Impact National’s conference in Portland, and even a trip to Zambia with Habitat for Humanity! The club also hosted an incredibly successful Sustainable Business and Social Impact Conference which attracted approximately 400 attendees and nearly 60 speakers to Fuqua. And much, much more!
Fuqua’s Net Impact Club is truly at the forefront of a new generation of business leaders who are using their skills to tackle the world’s toughest problems. In the words of Net Impact CEO Liz Maw, “Each year, Gold chapters raise the bar and mobilize students and professionals to use their careers for good.”
We’re looking forward to another outstanding year with Abigail Lundy and Elana Boehm at the helm. The co-presidents plan to build on the momentum of the past year’s club while focusing on engaging more deeply with the local Triangle community, partnering with other clubs and groups across Fuqua and Duke, and leveraging Fuqua faculty, staff, students, and alumni to bring cutting edge social and environmental sector learning and career opportunities to the student body.
