It was a busy year! We at Fuqua value hard work and discipline, but also live by the famous quote “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Here are a few of the many student events we participated in between our business school studies.

1. Fuqua Friday

At Fuqua, your classroom represents a tiny version of the world. There is an eclectic mix of people from different cultures and disciplines. However, in the daily nitty-gritty of assignments, cases, and tests, it can sometimes be hard to gain insights from people in other programs. But every Friday evening, the Fuqua family comes together as they eat, dance, and celebrate different cultures. Fuqua Fridays are a great way to meet new people and relax as the week ends.

2. Career Fairs

There will be two major Duke career fairs during your tenure at Fuqua—one in the fall and the other in the spring. Many students find a job through these career fairs. You get an opportunity to meet with someone from your targeted company, build a network, ask questions, and get free goodies!! So what are you waiting for? Wear your blazer, print your resume, and get ready to take a step forward in your professional life.

3. Mystery Events

Imagine you are bored with your mundane routines and you receive an email that simply has a location and guidance on what to wear. On reaching the location, you are given a task—something that’s fun, exciting, and memorable. Mystery Events are exactly what they sound like. You sign up, participants are chosen at random, and then you find out where to go and what you’ll be doing the day of the event. These events happen once a term and are a great way of getting to know your classmates and building valuable connections outside of the classroom.

4. The Duke Basketball Experience

Have you ever dreamed of learning and playing basketball with the Duke Men’s Basketball Team? Have you ever dreamed of walking down the hallway wearing a Duke Basketball jersey? We hear you! The Duke Basketball Experience is a one of a kind opportunity for students to learn important lessons from Duke basketball players and coaches, and getting to do so on the ‘holy ground’ of Cameron Indoor Stadium. You are distributed on to teams and perform player drills—basically, you get to spend a couple of hours of your life in their shoes. Glamorous, isn’t it?

5. Basketball Campout

Campout is a Blue Devils tradition. Every year, Cameron Crazies come together and camp in a parking lot for a weekend. If you finish all the tasks and are present for all the random check-ins, you qualify to enter the lottery for coveted Duke Men’s Basketball season tickets. Even if you do not win, it is a matter of pride to be a part of the fun Campout tradition and be able to share that experience for the rest of your life.

6. Team Dating

Throughout the 10-month program, you only get to work on two different learning teams. But what if your best friend is on another team? Sounds a bit unfair! With Team Dating, you and your team pick a team from the other class section, and you go out and have fun while Fuqua reimburses your costs. Brunches, dinners, or even jumping together at Sky Zone Trampoline Park could be a great way to get to know another team and its members better!

7. Fuqua Formals

Fuqua Formals, as the name suggests, gives you a chance to enjoy a formal evening with your favorite classmates, teams, and groups of friends. Eat, dance, and do not forget to take great pictures!

Despite valuing hard work and discipline, we do not forget to play at the Fuqua School of Business. So if you are ready to be a part of a community bigger than yourself, immerse yourself into possibilities of personal and professional growth, and have fun along the way, this is your home!
