My 3 Favorite Food Spots Near Durham
People interested in exploring new restaurants like me, Durham will not let you down. Nestled in the heart of North Carolina, this city has a variety of good dining places waiting to be discovered. From local food to international cuisines, Durham’s dining scene is a reflection of its diverse community and city vibe.
In my time in the MQM program, I made it my mission to sample local favorites and uncover hidden gems.
Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle
Looking for a tasty spot to unwind after a long day at school? Check out Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle for an amazing Chinese-style rice noodle soup experience. This cozy eatery is a hit among students for its flavorful broths and fresh ingredients0
I loved cooking my own noodles and meats right at my table — a fun and interactive twist to my meal. With a variety of broths and toppings, there’s opportunity to customize your bowl just the way you like it. It’s the perfect place to grab a comforting bowl of soup, catch up with friends, and take a break from studying.
Sushi Mon
To satisfy a craving for some top-notch sushi, Sushi Mon is my go-to spot. This local sushi place is located in Raleigh, which is a short trip from campus. But the food is totally worth it.
This place offers a killer menu that’s perfect for a foodie break. The sushi is fresh and beautifully presented, making each bite a delight. Whether you’re into nigiri or udon, they’ve got you covered. It’s an awesome spot to unwind after a tough week of classes or to celebrate a big win with friends.
A Personalized Feast at Home
Those two are just examples of many fine restaurants that Durham has. However, I would say that the best local “restaurant” isn’t a traditional food spot — it’s your own kitchen, where cooking with friends becomes a flavorful journey and a bonding experience.
Some of my favorite Fuqua memories involve gathering friends to create a feast that not only showcases our culinary skills but also strengthens friendships. From succulent shrimp stir-fry and tender roast chicken, each dish was a collaborative effort, blending our diverse backgrounds and shared passion for good food. The time spent with friends I met at Fuqua is an important part of what made my student experience so valuable.
