Joining the Global Executive MBA Class of 2024 has been an incredible experience inside and outside the classroom. As you’ll see in the video below, I had the privilege of doing an Instagram takeover for Fuqua on day four of our classes in Santiago, Chile, the second residency of our program.

Our residencies include class time, teamwork time, and excursions to different parts of the city—so the days are fun but jam-packed. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in downtown Santiago and woke up to have breakfast before class. In my takeover, I captured some classmates getting a quick bite before heading to Statistics with Professor Alessandro Arlotto. The night prior to this, we had our Halloween costume party—you can catch some photos in the video and judge the best costume for yourself.

Statistics class started at 8:00 a.m. followed later in the morning by Economics with Professor Leslie Marx. You can see that a large part of our group discussion was on game theory and finding the Nash equilibrium. This wrapped up the classes portion of the day.

We had lunch at noon and then proceeded to one of our excursions. I signed up for la Bolsa de Comercio—or the Santiago Stock Exchange downtown. We learned about its history and how stocks and options are traded. We also had to take a class photo to commemorate this visit (“photos or it didn’t happen,” right?). Meanwhile, the other half of the class visited the office of Freeport-McMoRan, whose operations include the world’s largest gold mine.

We proceeded to the hotel right after the visits, because, while classes were done for the day, we still had assignments due that evening. My study team, Team 7, got to work so we could finish before our meal. We then treated ourselves to a celebratory dinner on the town after a successful day of class, new learnings in statistics and economics, an understanding of stock exchange operations in Chile, and completing our assignment. You can see our “para arriva, para abajo” toast at the end of the video.

The rest of our Chile trip included fun excursions like a wine tasting and a bike tour. We could have easily spent another week exploring the city to supplement what we learned in our classes. I am grateful to the Fuqua School of Business for this opportunity, the faculty that helped us understand more about Chilean markets and the economy, and my amazing classmates for making this a memorable trip.
