I was born in Saudi Arabia, an Indian by origin, and spent my entire life there, building a career as a dentist. However, life took a turn when I got married and relocated to Washington, D.C. Little did I anticipate the challenges of starting afresh in a new country, not only in my professional domain but also in adapting socially to the new norms.

Adjusting to a New Life

Driven by the need for exploration, I diversified my career by working for various organizations, with a particularly intriguing stint in a political campaign for a Member of Parliament in Montreal, Canada. This experience marked my initial foray outside the confines of a dental office and sparked my interest in the analytical aspects of politics.

Realizing my evolving aspirations, I sought to pivot my career, aiming to remain connected to the health care industry while delving into the business aspects of running a dental office. The discovery of the MSQM program at Fuqua seemed serendipitous. Despite having applied to multiple schools, the acceptance from Duke University felt particularly important, especially with the endorsement from my sister, a Fuqua alumna.

The application process, though initially daunting, proved to be smooth, and the well-designed curriculum at Fuqua facilitated my transition, enabling me to adapt to programming and analytical skills seamlessly. Coming from a dental background and having studied outside the U.S., Team Fuqua played a pivotal role in making me feel welcomed and supported, fostering a conducive environment for skill enhancement beyond the classroom.

Joining Team Fuqua

The collaborative nature of Fuqua’s teamwork became evident as my teams proved exceptionally supportive and encouraging, not only in academic endeavors but also in personal aspects. From coding classes to sharing our life experiences and pet stories, the camaraderie among us exemplified the renowned teamwork at Fuqua, validating its reputation.

The informative workshops, dedicated professors, and supportive teaching assistants further enriched my academic journey. The breaks between terms provided ample time for relaxation, allowing me, a self-proclaimed globe-trotter, to indulge in my passion for travel.

As I stand on the brink of graduation, the sentiment is bittersweet. Reflecting on this transformative journey, I am reminded of Helen Keller’s words: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” This quote encapsulates the essence of my Fuqua experience, emphasizing the power of collaboration and the collective achievements made possible through shared efforts.
