Now that we are at the end of the regular season and entering March Madness for men’s basketball, our loyalty to the Duke Blue Devils is stronger than ever. It is not uncommon for students to look back through pictures and videos of past games and reminisce on the ups and downs of the season, while hoping for a glorious finish—victoriously cutting down the nets at the end of the post-season tournament.

One of my favorite memories of the basketball season was an event that took place in October just before exhibition games began. The event is known on campus as Countdown to Craziness, and the name only hints at the electric energy and feelings of excitement that pump up the fans and players alike. At Duke, we begin with the end goal in mind; not only on the basketball court, but also in our business management training. We learn about the importance of setting goals upfront and unifying the whole team behind that vision. At Countdown to Craziness, the fans and the players unite their vision and begin a journey that everyone hopes and believes can end with only one outcome: a national championship.
