Before Fuqua

I was born and raised in a small town in eastern North Carolina. My mother has been a nurse for over thirty years, and it was her work that initially sparked my passion for health care.

Having a knack for math and science, I studied undergraduate biomedical engineering at Duke University (yes, I’m a Double Dukie!). However, after realizing that I had more of an interest in the business side of health care, I decided to pursue strategy and operations consulting focused in health care after graduating.

At Fuqua

I am currently a first-year student at Fuqua pursuing the Health Sector Management certificate and a Leadership & Ethics concentration. Fuqua is one of the premier institutions for studying the business of health care, so I plan to take advantage of the plethora of opportunities that exist both inside and outside the classroom. This includes the Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum and the Duke Hospital Experiential Learning Practicum.

I am a member of the Black & Latino MBA Organization, Health Care Club and the Institute for Health Care Improvement. This summer, I am pursuing an internship with health care provider or pharmaceutical organizations in strategy or general management roles. I’m also focusing my recruiting to the local Raleigh/Durham area.

Fun Facts

One of my primary goals for business school is to make sure that I am leaving time for my hobbies and personal interests outside of school. Some of them include:

  • Long-distance running: I’m currently training for my first marathon!
  • Reading: I have a goal to read at least 25 books a year…right now I’m on number 16
  • Traveling: I hope to travel to South Africa and China this year with Fuqua

Please contact me if you're interested in health care opportunities, living in Durham or diversity at Fuqua. I’ll be posting about several of these topics throughout the year.
