The Master of Management Studies (MMS) is a unique program in that it’s designed to deliver a master’s level business education in less than a year. The concept of earning an advanced degree in such a short time is new in the United States, where there are few programs of this kind. The Fuqua MMS degree is similar to European master’s programs that are also less than one year in length. Though it is still in its infancy, I think the MMS program has the potential to be a new standard in business education, and master’s level education as a whole.

The main reason that I decided to apply to the MMS program is that I wanted to build a base of practical business skills that would broaden the range of work that I could do. When I was a kid, I mowed neighborhood lawns to earn money, and since then I have had the entrepreneurial bug. Since I want to eventually work for myself, a solid business foundation is essential for me. After hearing about the MMS program and speaking to admissions representatives, I felt that the program was tailored very closely to what I was looking for in a master’s degree.

So far, accounting, business analysis, and corporate finance have been the most challenging classes for me, but also the most informative. The coursework is difficult, but I am enjoying what I am learning, and I feel that I am on my way to being much more fully competent in business. I have also enjoyed my classmates in the program, and there is definitely a camaraderie that is built in and out of the classroom. I am looking forward to the remainder of the program, but first I have to make it to Fall Break!
