Emerging from high school and embarking on my undergraduate journey, I thought that to be successful, I needed to pursue a career in medicine or law. The summer following my first year of college was spent shadowing physicians in the afternoons, but my curiosity for a business career led to me taking on an investment management internship in the mornings. Having fallen in love with my experience in business, I decided to replicate my summer following my sophomore year, where I shadowed a doctor for a month and worked in wealth management for a month. From here, it became obvious to me that my calling was in the world of business, investing, and management.

Having been a neuroscience major and always on the path to medical school, I now felt stuck. I laid a foundation for a career in medicine. However, I knew my passion was business, and I wanted to pursue a business-related degree.

From Neuroscience to Business

My senior year began, and I had my eyes set on going to business school, yet I had no clue where to start because so many people had told me I needed post-grad work experience to get into a top business school. Through countless hours perusing the internet to find anything that could help me augment my neuroscience undergraduate studies with my passion for business in an academic environment, I came across a program on Google: “Duke Fuqua – MMS: Foundations of Business“.

Like most, I first asked myself how to pronounce “Fuqua.” After a couple of clicks on the Duke website, I navigated to a video on pronouncing “Fuqua,” and the rest is history. In doing my research I realized this was the program I not only wanted but needed. Thus, I spent months ensuring my application and interview were cultivated to show admissions my eagerness to be a part of such a great program and a fantastic business school here at Fuqua.

Joining Team Fuqua: My Best Decision Yet

One of the biggest things that drew me to Duke was Team Fuqua. Since being here, it has been genuinely unique to witness what it means for all of us students, not just in MMS, to be close-knit and support one another’s endeavors. Personally, this has been so valuable in catalyzing my growth here at Fuqua because I have learned so much about my peer’s cultures, learning how to work with people with a variety of work styles, but most importantly, being able to learn from peers just as much as I learn from the renowned faculty here.

To the prospective students, faculty, my peers, and so on, choosing Team Fuqua has been the greatest decision of my career, and I am forever grateful for my journey here.
