Why I Love Being an Admissions Ambassador
The decision to become an admissions ambassador wasn’t just about getting involved on campus — it was about giving back to a community that had already given me so much.

The decision to become an admissions ambassador wasn’t just about getting involved on campus — it was about giving back to a community that had already given me so much. I still remember my first interaction with a Fuqua ambassador during my admissions journey. Their warmth, authenticity, and enthusiasm for Fuqua were magnetic, and I left that conversation feeling like this was a place where I truly belonged. That experience stuck with me, and I knew I wanted to be the person who could create that moment of connection for someone else.

Becoming an Admissions Ambassador
For me, becoming an admissions ambassador wasn’t just about adding another line to my resume; it was deeply personal. When I applied for the role, I reflected on the experiences that had brought me here, like my first campus visit, when a current ambassador’s warmth and authenticity made me feel like I belonged. I wanted to pass that feeling along. My application went beyond a list of accomplishments, including a heartfelt narrative about my love for Fuqua and how much it means to me.
I still vividly remember the moment I received my acceptance email. It was a blend of pride and anticipation. Knowing I had been trusted to represent Fuqua and share its story with prospective students felt deeply meaningful. It reminded me of how I once stood in their shoes, eager to learn more about this incredible community.

Supporting Fuqua’s Future
This role goes far beyond leading campus tours or answering questions. It’s about creating connections and fostering belonging. Every time I see a prospective student’s eyes light up when they hear a story or envision themselves at Fuqua, I’m reminded of why I do this. It’s about showing them that Duke isn’t just a school — it’s a family.
One of the coolest aspects of being an admissions ambassador is the behind-the-scenes look at how admissions works. It’s fascinating to see how the admissions team pieces together a diverse, talented class each year. (Spoiler alert: It’s not a secret formula; it’s about finding people who’ll thrive here.)
For prospective students, admissions ambassadors provide a window into Duke life. We’re here to answer questions, share experiences, and show them that, yes, it’s possible to survive — and thrive — at Duke. There’s something uniquely rewarding about helping someone visualize their future here. When a prospective student says, “Talking to you helped me decide to apply,” you realize the impact you’re making.

Developing New Skills
Through this role, I’ve learned to think quickly on my feet, communicate effectively, and balance multiple responsibilities. From answering tough questions from students to collaborating with the admissions team, every experience is helping me build my skillset while also broadening my perspective and strengthening my ties to the Fuqua family.
Being an admissions ambassador also provides a playground for creativity. Ambassadors are often involved in brainstorming and implementing new ideas to engage prospective students. From creating Instagram reels to showcase campus life to filming quirky “day in the life” videos, we get to show off the vibrant, supportive community that makes Duke special. It’s the perfect mix of fun and purpose, and seeing ourselves on Fuqua’s social media channels is a bonus!
Being part of this process has deepened my love for Duke a hundredfold. Whether it’s the joy of connecting with students, the thrill of representing Duke, or the friendships I’ve made along the way, this role is truly one-of-a-kind.
