Originally from Boston, completing my undergrad in Philadelphia, then living four years in Virginia, I finally completed my 27-year journey south when my wife and I moved to Durham in the summer of 2021. I am a chemical engineer by training and have spent my career in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry working on drugs ranging from popular vaccines to treatments for rare genetic diseases. While I wasn’t completely new to business school classes when I joined Fuqua (I took microeconomics pass/fail once! Eight years ago. Okay, maybe I was new.), the skillset I’ve gained through the Weekend Executive MBA program has been indispensable in my daily career and really broadened my perspective.
More than the academics, the relationships I’ve made along the way are a lasting impact on my life. Whether working with my teammates on class assignments, planning a tasting event for the Fuqua Office of Ale and Merrymaking (F.O.A.M., our beer club), or just chatting about our lives, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my cohort as we stumble charge ahead to graduation. I thought Team Fuqua was just a cute gimmick before I joined; after four terms I can confidently say that I was wrong.
In my (dwindling) spare time, I love hiking, biking, skiing, and hanging out with friends. I’m an avid homebrewer and am looking forward to becoming more active in my local homebrew club after graduation. I sometimes moonlight as a musician and have been trying (agonizingly slowly) to pick up the guitar. Shameless plug – check out my music on Instagram @alexgeorgemusicofficial
