Focusing on My Values To Maximize My Time at Fuqua
Fuqua is a place where we are inspired to draw on our diverse backgrounds to enrich every class and conversation, allowing me to channel my growth mindset and values every day.

After graduating from Queens University, I chose to serve as the chief of staff for Queens Athletics, while swimming professionally in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Trials in Germany, before enrolling in the MMS program at Fuqua. That gap year between undergrad and graduate school gave me real-world experience and continued to foster in me the value of building meaningful relationships and leadership. This experience was invaluable because Fuqua is a place where we are inspired to draw on our diverse backgrounds to enrich every class and conversation, allowing me to channel my growth mindset and values every day.
Building Meaningful Relationships
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned at Fuqua is the difference between networking and building genuine relationships. It’s easy to get caught up in the fast-paced environment — rushing from coffee chats to case studies, always thinking about what’s next. I’ve found that the most rewarding connections come from taking the time to truly listen and be curious about my classmates’ stories.
Drawing inspiration from Shep Moyle, who I’ve been fortunate to meet at Fuqua, I often ask people, “What’s your superpower?” It became one of my favorite questions. It breaks the ice but also dives into what makes someone unique.
Bringing a level of intentionality to building meaningful relationships at Fuqua has benefitted me in so many ways. I’ve developed great friendships with people like Steve Misuraca, associate dean of Daytime MBA and MMS programs. It’s also led me to a role with Duke Athletics, where I work in corporate partnerships, supporting everything from game-day operations to sponsor relations.
I’ve met classmates from all over the world — each bringing different perspectives. For example, my Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum (FCCP) team includes individuals from China, South Korea, Turkey, and India, all with diverse professional backgrounds. These relationships have not only enriched my academic experience but have also shaped my worldview.

Collaboration Over Competition
Coming from a background as a professional athlete, competition is second nature to me. Being at Fuqua helped me redefine what competition means. Here, it’s not about stepping over each other to reach the finish line; it’s about crossing it together. Whether it’s inviting classmates to a career fair or preparing for interviews together, the spirit of collaboration runs deep.
Serving as a career ambassador has given me the opportunity to give back. The role involves reviewing cover letters, conducting mock interviews, and helping others navigate the job search.
As I often say, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.” The people I’ve met here at Team Fuqua have made me a better version of myself.
Looking Ahead to My Career
When I first started at Fuqua, I never imagined I’d be joining Procter & Gamble. Like many others, I initially dreamed of flashy tech companies or big consulting firms, but a pivotal conversation with a mentor shifted my mindset. He challenged me to reflect on my values, encouraging me to think about what I truly wanted in a company.
P&G stood out for its commitment to mentorship and personal development. They didn’t just offer me a job — they offered me a tailored growth path. From flexible start dates, supporting me in my efforts of visiting my family in Germany post-graduation to personal connections (like the CFO of P&G Chemicals, Guenter Lensges, driving me to the airport), they demonstrated a level of care that resonated deeply with my values.
As I reflect on how much I’ve grown since joining Team Fuqua, it’s important to note that I will never forget where I came from. My parents invested so much in me and my two siblings, Malte & Pia, encouraging us to reach for achievements beyond our loftiest goals.
I never imagined I would study abroad in the U.S., and I likely wouldn’t be here if they hadn’t encouraged me to just try it out and continue my professional swimming career. I’m endlessly thankful for my parents’ unwavering support.
