If I had to describe myself in 3 words, then it would be:
An engineer, a writer, and a traveler.
I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2014 with a Civil Engineering degree. I have a huge interest in buildings, bridges, architecture, and interior design. Sometimes when I hit a language barrier, I would replace ‘English’ with ‘math.’ Instead of the slant or slope of a ceiling, I’d say “the ceiling has ‘y = mx + b’ shape!”
On the other hand, writing gives me the time for a different kind of thought process. I have a personal blog, a photo blog, and an electronic portfolio website. These platforms allow me to share ideas and inspirations.
I’m from Indonesia, so as a traveler, I spent 5 years studying abroad in the United States. In the summer of 2014 I also had the chance to live in Australia for 2 months. The differences between Indonesia, the US, and Australia enhanced my views about multiculturalism. The experiences taught me the value of friendship that extends to different countries.
I’m grateful for the education and traveling experiences I have been through, which is why I might look for volunteering opportunities at Duke in the future. Down the road, I want to work in a consumer goods industry function that directly relates to people. Hopefully, I can work in marketing to reach people and connect with them. In the meantime, I’ll entertain you guys with my stories! It’s going to be yet another exciting year for the MMS program!
