I am the wife of Sultan Omurzakov, a second-year Daytime MBA student in the Class of 2017. During the past year as a Fuqua Partner, I served as a co-chair of Fuqua Families and was actively engaged in volunteering on and off campus.

Before Fuqua

Originally, I come from the small and beautiful country of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. Born and raised in the south of the country, I moved to the capital, Bishkek, when I was accepted to college.

During the four years of my undergraduate studies, I attended four universities in three continents: North America, Europe, and Asia. While a freshman at American University of Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, I was selected as one of the top 10 students in the country for Undergraduate Global Studies Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State to attend a college in Minnesota for one academic year.

Upon return to Asia I won another grant from George Soros Foundation to attend an American University in Bulgaria, and later the third grant to take summer school at a top university in Kazakhstan. Immediately after graduation, I joined a top audit firm and later a consulting company in Central Asia, where in total I worked for over three years until our MBA journey started in Durham in 2015.

I can proudly say that I encouraged my husband to apply to top MBA programs, and when he had to choose between several offers from business schools the choice to come to Fuqua was clear for us.
