While I credit the institution for providing numerous leadership opportunities, my classmates are the ones who have encouraged me to pursue those opportunities.

Time moves swiftly when career advancement, international exposure, and fun all compete to be at the core of the MBA experience. So, please put on your seatbelts, and let me take you on a quick 2-year journey.

Throughout my leadership journey, I realized that true leadership is not about personal achievements or recognition, but about amplifying the voices of others.

Growing up in a small town with limited resources, I never had many opportunities to explore leadership roles or discover my full potential. But that changed when I came to Fuqua.

The opportunity to get my hands dirty working on a real-life business problem, and see the impact we were making in real-time, went far beyond classroom learning for me.

As a queer woman in the process of coming out and earning an MBA in a new country, I was worried about being accepted and being able to live my life to the fullest, both professionally and personally.

Rather than coming to campus saying “I want to join XYZ club,” think about what you want to gain and stay flexible. There may be even better avenues to accomplish your end goals for an MBA.

My identities made me the person I am but also came with unique barriers to pursuing my MBA journey, whether mental, emotional, or financial.

A concern for diversity, equity and inclusion issues is embedded in Fuqua’s DNA. For students, it shows up in both their curriculum and co-curricular activities.

I came to Duke’s Fuqua School of Business with the goal of building out my strategy skillset.
